A natural linen spray is made up of 1 cup of distilled water, 2 tablespoons of Witch Hazel or vodka (this helps the essential oil mix with the water) and 15-20 drops of the essential oil of your choice. For use on your pillows and duvets before sleep try using relaxing Lavender and Chamomile and for a freshening up of your curtains and rugs Eucalyptus and Peppermint are excellent choices.
Hack 11: Vodka for Deodorizing Upholstery You know that awful smell that some furniture has? That’s from VOCs (volatile organic compounds) left behind from synthetic materials in the upholstery. The worst part is that once the smell has saturated into the fibers, it’s virtually impossible to get rid of using natural means.
However, we’ve found that a cheap, high-proof vodka can be used to remove the worst odors from upholstery and even from gym shoes. To get the smell out of your furniture first pour the vodka into a spray bottle. Then spray lightly until the alcohol has evaporated. This will kill off the bacteria causing the odor and because there is no odor from the vodka once it has completely evaporated there is nothing left.
Hack 12: Remove carpet stains with Club Soda – It’s simple yet surprisingly effective! Club Soda works better than most of the chemicals found in carpet stain removers. While fresh, pour a small amount of the liquid directly onto the stain and allow it to fizz for a moment or two. Use a clean and dry cloth to blot the area to lift the stain from the carpet fibers.

Place 4-5 of your Soap Nuts in a small cloth bag and pop them in the washing machine drum with your laundry as normal. The Soap Nuts will break down in the water to produce loads of lovely, clean suds to wash your clothes.
